Tradução do EPK de Night of Hunters

Ontem, a Decca Records liberou o EPK do Night of Hunters, o vídeo no qual Tori discute um pouco mais o álbum, com falas acompanhadas por imagens e as novas canções. Aqui está a fala de Tori, traduzida, acompanhada da lista de canções as quais pudemos ouvir trechos preciosos!

Night of Hunters é um ciclo de canções que ocorre entre o crepúsculo e a aurora, no rio Bandon, nas redondezas de KinSale, Irlanda. O casal mal fez a (?) travessia, quando o relacionamento se estilhaça e ele vai embora. Seguimos ela então, em seu processo psicológico durante a noite.

A primeira coisa na qual tive de deixar minha cabeça imersa era no arco da narrativa. Decidi que era importante termos personagens. Minha filha Natashya Hawley atua como Anabelle na história, assim como minha sobrinha, Kelsey Dobyns, assumindo o papel de Musa do Fogo. Anabelle é uma criatura que se transforma, um ser metamórfico, originário da natureza. Ela é dualidade, o caçador e a presa, em suas formas de raposa e ganso. E Ele, o homem da história, é bastante presente. Nós o ouvimos à medida que o ciclo segue em instrumentação, e também atravessamos o caminho de seu fantasma.

Sempre fui atraída à mágica da Irlanda. Há algo na terra, sim, e na mitologia ancestral própria deles.

O que realmente me chamou atenção foi a ideia de trabalhar com esses temas clássicos. Estive ouvindo a muitos, e de Stravinsky, fui tomada pela ideia de um octeto, bem como pela vontade de fundir o piano a este octeto de modo a não haver dominação por qualquer uma das partes. Tendo poucos instrumentos, há espaço para as vozes de diferentes personagens, e isso teve bastante apelo.

Penso que quando você ouve Night of Hunters pela primeira vez, por ser desenhado como uma narrativa, cada canção fala sobre a próxima. Uma vez que as conheça, acredito enfim que elas possam ter vida fora do ciclo e assim serem ouvidas sozinhas.

Night of Hunters is a song cycle and it takes place from dusk to dawn, on the river bandon, hum, right outside of KinSale in Ireland, and the couple has just made the (?) crossing, but this is where a shattering of the relationship has taken place and he has left. And we follow her now, in her psychological process through the night.

The first thing that I really had to get my head around was the arch of the narrative. I decided that it was important that we had characters. My daughter Natashya Hawley plays Anabelle on the story, as does my niece, Kelsey Dobyns, she plays the Fire Muse. Anabelle is a changing creature, shapeshifting being, that’s come out of nature. She is duality, she is the hunter and the hunted in her fox form and her goose form, and He, the man of the story, is very present. We’ll hear him, as the cycle goes on through instrumentation, and we made him through his ghost.

I’ve always been drawn to the magic of Ireland. There’s something about the land, yes, and the ancient mythology they have.

What really appeal to me was the idea of working with these classical themes. I’ve been listening to quite but Stravinsky, and I was taken with the idea of an octect, and the idea as well the piano merges with the octect in a way where’s there’s no overpowerment, and having quite a few instruments there can also be the voices for different characters, was appealing.

I think when you listen to Night of Hunters for the first time, because it’s designed this narrative, every song informs the other. Once you know them, then I think they can live outside the cycle and stand on their own.
